Computing

Subject Intent Statement  

Developing thoughtful, holistic, curious, children through an enquiry based, child-centred computing curriculum who have a deep sense of worth and belonging. Flexible thinkers who are equipped to embrace change and shape their future.  Using the key skills of computing to make excellent progress. Understanding the key concepts of information technology, data science, computer science, programming and multimedia, which underpin the computing curriculum.  

Introduction  

In Brunswick Primary School we believe that Computing plays an important role in the education of all our pupils. Computing encompasses information technology, data science, computer science, programming and multimedia design and has a vital role to play in the development of creativity, logical reasoning and problem solving in our children. We aim to enable more young people to benefit from studying this important subject. Through this, we believe that their career opportunities will be enhance.

Aims of Computing 

The national curriculum for computing aims to ensure that all pupils: 

  • can understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including abstraction, logic, algorithms and data representation 
  • can analyse problems in computational terms, and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve such problems 
  • can evaluate and apply information technology, including new or unfamiliar technologies, analytically to solve problems 
  • are responsible, competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology
